'WORMS'
Grounds for play, Bellahouston Park, Glasgow, 2017
A permanent sculpture commission to design a new playable artwork for the Grounds For Play area at House for an Art Lover, Bellahouston Park.
3 local primary schools and 15 college pupils were engaged in a series of design workshops taking place both at the park and in the classroom, responding to a chosen theme of the subterranean world of the park. The engagement programme involved mini archaeological digs for the pupils and drawing workshops, weekend family drop in activities where we explored what makes a good play space with teachers, parents and children.
The final sculpture is inspired by the children’s drawings of worms and designs for helter-skelters. It also references the form of fidget toys that are used therapeutically to assist pupils (and people) in easing stress and managing situations.
Commission for Glasgow City Council and House for an Art Lover, undertaken as Lead Artist with icecream architecture. 2016 - 2017
